Custom mirror buying guide for Milwaukee homes and gyms
A cut-to-size mirror costs far less than most people expect and transforms a room. Here is how to spec one correctly the first time.
Thickness and edges
- 1/4" mirror is the standard for wall and vanity installations — it stays flat and will not distort your reflection.
- 1/8" is only appropriate for small framed pieces and cabinet doors.
- Polished edges give a clean, modern finish; beveled edges add a decorative 1/2"-1" angled border.
- Safety backing film holds the mirror together if it ever breaks — we recommend it for gyms, stairs and kids' rooms.
Gym and studio walls
- Standard gym panels are 48" x 72" mounted about 20" off the floor.
- Panels are butted tightly so the reflection runs continuous across the wall.
- J-channel plus mastic is the safest mounting method on drywall; we anchor into studs wherever possible.
Bathroom and vanity mirrors
- Measure to the backsplash, not the counter, and leave clearance for sconces.
- Cutouts for outlets, lights and medicine cabinets are made in the shop, not on site.
- A frameless polished-edge mirror sized to your vanity looks custom-built because it is.

- Most vanity mirrors run $150-$450 installed depending on size and edge. Gym walls are quoted per panel.

- Yes. We safely remove and dispose of glued-on builder mirrors, including repairing minor wall damage.
